The Lake County Attorney’s Office will review police reports and determine if an off-duty Duluth police officer committed a crime after twice driving his personal vehicle into a parked car at a Lincoln Park bar.
Duluth police officer Brian Jones, 50, was placed on paid administrative leave after his department said he twice backed his car into a parked car in the Mitch’s Bar parking lot Thursday night. Jones was not at the scene when police arrived, but his car was parked in the lot.
City Attorney Gunnar Johnson said Tuesday that he has asked Lake County Attorney Laura Auron to review the incident.
“We felt it was in the best interest of Officer Jones and public safety to have this reviewed by an independent prosecutor,” Johnson said.
Jones, who has been employed in the department since 1998 and was named Duluth Police Officer of the Year in 2006, didn’t return a phone call seeking comment Tuesday.
