UMD’s longtime women’s hockey coach is hinting at taking legal action, after her contract was not renewed.
Shannon Miller joined UMD in 1998, and she has led the Bulldog Women’s Hockey team to five national titles since then. The university announced in December that they will not renew Miller’s contract, or her staff’s, at the end of the season.
On Thursday, Miller said that she is assembling a legal team.
“I have two attorneys right now,” she said. “They’re working together and they’re the ones that are talking to other people. It’s not me. They’re creating a team of people, and we’re getting ready to do whatever it is we need to do.”
Miller said her focus right now needs to be her team and her staff.
The university said it was a financial decision to not renew the contract. Miller is the highest paid coach in women’s college hockey, with a base salary of $215,000. UMD Men’s Hockey Coach Scott Sandelin makes $235,000.
